Gunner 119315 Alfred J. Goodman
'C' Battery, 181st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery

Local Information:

Gunner Goodman was born in Hungerford where he enlisted into the Army and was the son of Mr A.H. Goodman, of Strongrove Hill, Hungerford. He was killed on Sunday 2nd December 1917, aged 21. He is buried in Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres, France.

[The CWGC show his father's surname as Goodall]

Regimental Information:

The war diary makes no mention of Other Rank casualties. All we know at present is the Brigade went to France in June 1916, when they joined the 40th Division.

Point of Interest:

On the Town Hall stairwell there is a memorial board that commemorated all those who served fro the town. One of those listed is a Gunner F.W. Goodman, 46th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. We have no evidence to support it but he might be a brother.
