Rifleman Preston was the husband of Eleanor K. Preston of 'Purnea' 21 Oxford Road, Newbury, Berkshire.

He was killed in action on 15th September 1916, aged 26. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the missing.
