- "Samuel West's Arithmetic Book, Feb the 7th 1794". This book, over 200 years old, is full of beautifully tidy examples of long division, multiplication, and mathematical problem solving. It was probably a standard book used by children studying at the Free Grammar School in The Croft.

We are unsure who this Samuel West was, but Parish Records show:
- 22.  1.1727 Samuel West married Ann Bird
-   8.12.1728 Samuel West baptised
- 23.12.1728 Samuel West buried
