Local Information:
Private Wilson was born in Boxford, Berkshire and the son of Walter and Jane Wilson, of 5 Salisbury Row, Hungerford. His older brother Alfred had already joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment. Henry enlisted at Newbury and at that time his place of residence was shown as Inkpen, Berkshire.
He died of wounds on the 4th May 1918 and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was one of two brothers killed in action.

The Battalion War Diary reads:
On the 2nd May the battalion relieved the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellingtons Regiment in the right Sub-Sector of the Brigade on the outskirts of Riez du Vinage. They remained
there till the 11th May.
Casualties reported for the 4th May was rank wounded, and remained on duty. One OR was killed and five wounded on the 3rd May. It appears Private Wilson was one of the 5
wounded.
After being wounded he was passed down the medical chain destined for England. On arrival at the coast at Etaples the main hospital he would have been assessed.
Unfortunately he died here as did many of the wounded making this cemetery one of the largest in France.
