Our attack between Dorian Lake and Petit Couronne took place at 21.45 hours. 'A' Company did not move, on account of the heavy barrage. 'C' and 'D' companies took their objectives and
began to consolidate, but having run out of bombs and having had three Lewis guns destroyed, were forced to retire in the face of a heavy counter attack.
Casualties Officers killed – 3, slightly wounded – 6. 245 other ranks killed, wounded and missing.
General Milne later published a dispatch which reads:
"This operation was carried out with the greatest gallantry and determination by representative battalions of English county regiments, amount whom the Devonshire Regiment and the
Berkshire Regiment deserve special credit for their dash and tenacity"
