Private 5606 Albert E. Hill
2nd Battalion (Duke of Edinburgh's) Wiltshire Regiment

Local Information:

Private Hill was born in Marylebone, London and enlisted into the Army in Marlborough, Wiltshire. His place of residence at the time of enlistment was Hungerford.

He went to France on the 20th October 1914 [This indicates he was either serving, or a recalled reservist]. He died at home on the 8th May 1916 and is buried in St Saviours Churchyard, Eddington, Hungerford.

Regimental Information:

In May 1916 the 2nd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment was in front of Carnoy on the Somme. It is clear he died of wounds but it is not possible to establish at this stage in which action he received those wounds.
