Arthur Morgan was the son of the former Lloyds Bank Manager, Charles Morgan, who was himself killed in a road accident on the A4 road (Avington to Hungerford) on 20 June 1942. Before joining the Royal Air Force, Arthur worked at Hungerford Park Farm. Some in Hungerford also remember his sister, Margaret, who was a keen member of the local Theatre Group and his brother David, who was taken prisoner at Dunkirk in 1940 and was never to see his brother or father again, as he did not return to Hungerford until his release in July 1945. |

My information shows that Arthur was married to Louise Morgan but I cannot find any trace of her locally and believe that, like many at that time, he married a girl from near his RAF station. On the death of Mr Charles Morgan, the family moved first to The Croft and then to Warren Farm, Savernake as there is evidence that Margaret and her mother were in the area in late 1969-70. I was unable to find out where Sgt Morgan did his training as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner but on the night of 9 November 1942 whilst on a night training exercise, his aircraft, a Vickers Wellington 1c (DV882 ZT-G) of 'D' Flight, 20 Operational Training Unit RAF Lossiemouth, flown by Sgt W J Pope, went missing somewhere in the North Sea off Scotland.
