The common lands of Hungerford are split between two large areas - Hungerford Common Port Down (east of the town) and Freeman's Marsh (west of the town). Both are important areas of wildlife, and both have an interesting history.

Freeman's Marsh, 2008

Commoners have the right to graze cattle on the Common (or Freeman's Marsh for Sanden Fee Commoners) between 15 April and 31 October each year. Fishing is from 1 May until 30 September, with grayling fishing continuing until December.
