Summary: Charnham Street. c1836

The Green Dragon was one of a dozen or so inns on the important Bath Road. The 1836 edition of Old Moore's Almanac lists many, including the "Green Dragon" in the "High House".

In 1778 this property had become the Hungerford workhouse, when the smaller building (now John of Gaunt Inn) in Bridge Street became too small. However, even this building was soon considered unsatisfactory, all the paupers were transferred to the Lambourn workhouse, probably in March 1836.
