You are in [Events] [Bullock Stampede, 1879]

The NWN of 16 January 1879 reported that:

"A bullock, sent from Chilton for slaughter in Hungerford, knocked down a butcher when it broke loose in High Street.

People dashed into doorways as the beast rushed down the street into the Wharf, where it fell in the canal.

The animal was dragged out with a rope but broke loose again.

It charged a crowd of spectators, who disappeared in all directions, and after a long chase got back to Chilton."
